Title: Abeyance
Author:
wojelah
Pairing: Emily Prentiss/David Rossi
Rating: FRAO
Spoilers: Through Faceless, Nameless - ep-tag-type stuff.
Summary: "He's trying pretty hard not to think about today and he knows it. They're going to be dissecting everything in minute detail, and it's not going to get easier as they go. He needs a breather before that starts. He didn't used to, but he does now."
( Author's Notes cut for spoilers )

I cannot walk through the suburbs in the solitude of the night without thinking that the night pleases us because it suppresses idle details, just as our memory does.

Fic: Prerogatives (4/4 - Complete) (Criminal Minds, Rossi/Prentiss, FRAO)
Aug. 20th, 2009 | 02:59 pm
Title: Prerogatives (4/4 - Complete)
Author:
wojelah
Pairing: Emily Prentiss/David Rossi; Aaron Hotchner/Jennifer Jareau (but only if you're so inclined)
Rating: FRAO
Spoilers: Through To Hell...And Back, but it's "blink and you'll miss it"-type stuff.
Summary: Prerogative. n. A right or privilege which belongs to a person by virtue of rank, office, position or special characteristic and which entitles that person to precedence or the exercise of some power or advantage not granted to others. (A.k.a., the one where someone stalks JJ and the BAU circles the wagons. And, you know, saves the day.)
Author's Notes: I said to
smittywing, "I want to write something plotty." She, being possessed of preternatural patience, did not hit me over the head with a book. 20K+ words later, this is the result. I really, really should know better. Thank heaven she was willing to beta the damn thing - and to force me to write the parts that made it better.

"The postmodern reply to the modern consists of recognizing that the past, since it cannot really be destroyed, because its destruction leads to silence, must be revisited: but with irony, not innocently. I think of the postmodern attitude as that of a man who loves a very cultivated woman and knows he cannot say to her, I love you madly, because he knows that she knows (and that she knows that he knows) that these words have already been written by Barbara Cartland. Still, there is a solution. He can say, As Barbara Cartland would put it, I love you madly."

Title: Learning to Miss
Author:
wojelah
Pairing: Emily Prentiss/David Rossi, Criminal Minds
Rating: NC-17/FRAO
Spoilers/Warnings: Through the end of S4. Could be thoroughly jossed come September.
Summary: "... shag Hotch, marry Rossi." It's not really a hard call, and she's pretty pleased with herself for dodging that bullet, until she realizes that it did not come out right at all - she'd meant to say marry Hotch, shag Rossi.
Notes:
smittywing made this so much better. Which is the norm, but I am always grateful.

Notes:
smittywing started it. And then she was gracious enough to let me write the other side. And to totally ignore all the arbitrary wordcount rules I'd set for her. You can read Emily's side of the story here: Against Her Better Judgment. Now it's Rossi's turn.

Fic: Cause of Snow (Criminal Minds, Rossi/Prentiss, FRAO)
Feb. 11th, 2009 | 12:59 am
Title: Cause of Snow
Author:
wojelah
Fandom, Pairing: Criminal Minds, Rossi/Prentiss
Rating: FRAO
Word Count: 7,700ish
Author's Notes: The fact that I considered this pairing at all is the fault of
innerslytherin and
severity_softly , who wrote this, which is very, very hot and makes the pairing completely plausible. The fact that this fic happened is all
smittywing 's fault. Title is from the poem "Snow Day," by Billy Collins, whose narrator is "a sympathizer with the anarchic cause of snow." Thank heaven for the marvelous beta-abilities of
smittywing and
omglawdork , who say things like "I'm pretty sure most cars now have automatic windows."
Summary: Prentiss has a flat tire, no power, and a free weekend. Rossi has several spare bedrooms, wine, and a wood-burning stove. Emily's a little baffled, but she'd like the chance to enjoy the evening a little longer.
( The first time it happens, it's Friday and it's snowing. )

Title: Heaven for Beginners

Word Count: ~1,200

Summary: "They've had a lot of "dates" - for Jennifer, the conferences are really pretty much old hat these days, and she considers herself something of an expert in the peculiar sociology of astrophysicists."
Author's Notes: This is so the fault of the caucus, for letting me write it instead of finishing up the other two fics (which are coming, contrary to appearances.
